The 2026 West Volusia Historical Society Tour of Historic Homes is the perfect event to showcase your business! This much anticipated, well-attended two-day event will give your business exposure to those who appreciate the quality products and customer service for which your business is known.

The West Volusia Historical Society is a volunteer, not-for profit organization focused on preserving and promoting the history of West Volusia County.

West Volusia Historical Society:

West Volusia Historical Society held its first Tour of Historic Homes in 1991. This event is one of our most enchanting, highlighting the myriads of architectural styles and charms of DeLand, and enticing guests into the holiday spirit.

The tour features the Northwest Residential Historic District of DeLand, and includes residences built in the period of growth that began with the Progressive Era and continued through the Boom. As Stetson University’s campus expanded, so did the residential area immediately to the west; and another neighborhood just behind the Woodland boulevard business district also began to grow. Many of the largest and most beautiful houses in the city were built at this time, along with more modest bungalows and cottages.

Then, as now, these homes embodied a way of life when people could relax on wide porches and walk downtown, to the University, or to their schools and churches. They were built of heart pine and cypress, woods that were vanishing from Central Florida forests as demand for timber grew.  But these well-built homes endured, and their owners have led the way in the restoration of older buildings to new life.
